At the Yalbilinya Education Project (YEP) we aim to cultivate an equitable Australia by providing a platform for reciprocal learning that helps address educational disparity. YEP was founded by six university students of diverse cultural backgrounds with an unwavering commitment to addressing reconciliation in this way.
Our team provides free, high-quality academic support and tutoring to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students, as well as pathways advice concerning future tertiary and vocational opportunities. We hold that there is a deep value in reciprocity. As such, we have created a platform that also enables all Australians to learn first-hand from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community leaders as well.
We envisage a loop of mutual responsibility. This calls us not only to address deficiencies in understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, values and issues, but also to ensure that the onus to solve educational inequality is borne mutually.
