Richard Potok had a distinguished career in law and was keen to be involved in Indigenous affairs when he founded and became the initial director of the Aurora Foundation in 2006. The Aurora Foundation delivers a suite of interconnected programs that walk with Indigenous students at different stages of their educational development to encourage resilience, aspiration and a sense of identity. Potok’s early endeavours were made possible by the generosity of Jewish philanthropists, together with support from the Federal Government department, Rio Tinto, Monash University and the University of New South Wales. He remained a Director of Aurora until 2020 and the Foundation is now supported by a number of philanthropic organisations and corporations.
