Inspired by the Jewish commitment to social justice and Tikkun Olam (Healing the World), the organisation Stand Up exists to channel the collective willpower, expertise and compassion of the Australian Jewish community to grasp and fulfil this responsibility. One of the most significant social justice issues in Australia is the ongoing discrimination and racism that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience. In pursuit of justice, Stand Up has a long and proud history of working in partnership with Aboriginal communities.
Stand Up recognises the importance of “truth-telling” as a crucial piece on the path to Reconciliation. Our unique truth-telling conversations program ‘Come Together’ brings the voices, stories, emotions and histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into Jewish homes and organisations. The program aims to build the capacity of the Jewish community to serve as allies to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Come Together sessions are co-delivered by Jewish volunteers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander speakers. Each session includes personal testimony from our speakers, videos, activities, discussions and reflections.
