In 2010 Professor Ivan Goldberg AM, who is Jewish, and Greg Poche established the Poche Centre for Indigenous Health. The Centre’s two co-directors were Professor Alan Cass AO, who is also Jewish, and Aboriginal GP, Associate Professor Ngiare Brown.
Indigenous-led Poche Research Centres now operate at universities across Australia, with multidisciplinary teams of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous researchers working together to enhance understandings of diverse health issues affecting Indigenous peoples. Their focus is to improve life expectancy and transform equity and justice in Indigenous health.
In 2022 all the clinical services previously provided by the Poche Centre transitioned to the appropriate Local Health District or Aboriginal Medical Services.
